Yep, we’ve all fallen for those dumb tips.
Those silly little tips and tricks that we read in magazines thinking they will magically help us achieve our physique goals. We try them and NOTHING. Okay, well maybe we feel good for a little while because we think they are working, but at the end of the day we are still just back where we started.
Well I thought I would share some of the worst nutrition advice that I personally fell for back in the day.
1. Eat 5 Meals a Day to Boost Your Metabolism
Yeah, you’ve heard it too! I used to do this thinking it would actually boost my metabolism, but wow, I was wrong. It doesn’t matter if you eat 1 meal a day, 2 meals a day or 10 meals…. it all comes down to energy in and energy out. You can spread that energy (calories) amongst 5 meals or 3 meals, it’s up to you, your lifestyle and what makes you happy!
2. Don’t Eat Carbs After 7pm
Okay, so you’re telling me that at 7pm on the dot my body suddenly decides to shut down and slow its metabolism? Uh, what? Our bodies are constantly working and going… they have no idea what ‘time’ it is. The ONLY argument I could semi-understand about this one is that people are usually sitting/laying down after 7pm because the day is done, so it could be more beneficial to schedule your carbs earlier in the day when you need that solid energy for working out/working. However, let me clarify, you can eat all of your carbs at night or you can eat all of your carbs in the morning and at the end of the day if you get in what your body needs, you won’t have any negative effects. Energy IN, energy OUT.
3. Fat Will Make You Fat
Fat is a macronutrient, it’s not some devilish weight gainer. Fat is extremely important in maintaining hormonal balance and aiding in metabolic processes. Again, at the end of the day what will determine if you gain weight or lose weight is energy IN and energy OUT. Eat a healthy balance of carbs, proteins and fat within your total caloric needs and you will be golden.
I sure hope one day we will stop seeing these pieces of nutrition advice out there in the media, but for now we just got to stay true to what we know, reach out to trusted individuals and cut out the crap.
