If there’s one thing I look forward to when summer comes around, it’s being outside and packing a picnic. Growing up, I used to picnic all the time, so for me, picnicking brings back those childhood memories. I’m fortunate to live near several parks in San Francisco, so every weekend, I have a choice on where I want to go!
When I was younger, I remember packing peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, cookies and potato chips for my picnics, but now that I’m older and passionate about living a healthy lifestyle, I look for healthier options to pack for a picnic. So, today, I’m sharing some essentials I pack for a healthy picnic in the park.
Picnic Blanket
It goes without saying that in order to have a picnic, you need to pack a picnic blanket. I have one that rolls up into a compact bag, so it’s easy to carry around and doesn’t add extra bulk. My booty needs some cushion on the grass!
High-Protein Crunchy Snack
I’m a huge advocate of getting enough protein throughout the day, so bringing a high protein snack to munch on is essential for a healthy picnic. Biena’s chickpea snacks are the perfect option since they are packed full of protein, flavor, and crunch! It’s easy to mindlessly munch away, so having a healthy and filling snack is important to have on hand. Biena’s chickpeas come in several different flavors including Barbecue, Rockin’ Ranch, Habanero, Sea Salt, Honey Roasted and Cinnamon Crunch. So whether you are feeling sweet or savory, they’ve got your back! Each serving contains 5g of protein and 24% of your daily fiber requirements, so they pack quite the satisfying crunch.
Fibrous Salad
For my main meal, I usually opt for a salad. I’ll head over to Whole Foods or a salad place nearby and fill it up with tons of grilled and fresh veggies, healthy fats and protein. I’ll even sprinkle a handful of Biena’s chickpeas on my salad for added crunch and flavor!
Speakers
Why not start a dance party at a picnic? I always bring a small set of speakers with me when I picnic to set the mood. Nothing gets me pumped like a good playlist outdoors. It’s easy to hook my phone up to the speakers and I have tons of Spotify playlists saved for whatever music mood I’m feeling!
Sparkling Beverage
I need something to sip on while I snack on chickpeas and salad, so I’ll usually opt for a refreshing sparkling beverage. Flavored sparkling waters are a perfect hydrating option, or if I’m feeling something more, I’ll grab a sparkling rosé or wine.
My days of peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, cookies, and crunchy potato chips aren’t totally over, but when I can, I like to find healthier ways to enjoy these childhood favorites. Biena’s roasted chickpeas are the perfect crunchy snack to bring with you while you lay out on the grass. They are packed with protein, fiber, and flavor and will help keep you satisfied for hours!
